Hello! Welcome to the JEDI website!

I'm Relan Volkum, the leader and administrator of the website. I'm here to help explain to you what this website is generally about.

At first, you may have thought this place was solely based on the Jedi in Star Wars. Truthfully, this is not the case. What we attempt to do here is explore the basic concepts the Jedi hold in Star Wars and exploit them within a real world setting. In other words, we are focused on Realism. Using these Jedi concepts, we are better able to understand the world in which we live in, whether it is dealing with religions views, philosophical theories and ideas, or everyday debates. Some may think we are here to learn fancy tricks or create Lightsabres, but once you really take the time to experience the JEDI website for yourself, you'll see we are not like this at all. In fact, we are just everyday people like you wondering about the world and finding answers to our never ending questions.

The JEDI website possesses many tools for you to help you explore these Jedi ways. First of all, we have a quality Discussion Forum which is constantly updated and maintained. We also have an Education center, a school setting providing instructors to teach you of these concepts. The Library section has an oasis of individual lessons about the Jedi ways, and our Database is filled with interesting terms, pictures, and news articles for you to share and further explore.

If you ever have questions or comments about this website and what we do here, the JEDI staff and I are always available to help you. Believe it or not, we do like to hear you. Reach us by mailing the staff@thejedi.org whenever you wish and we'll do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.

As the future comes to us, our goals of consistency, commitment, and communication will be further developed by bringing you realistic tools you can use to delve deeper into the meaning of our existence.

Until then, take care and enjoy the JEDI Website. Thank you.

Relan Volkum

 How to Navigate

JEDI composes of five major sections: the Website section, the Community section, the Education section, the Database section, and the Library section. Each of these sections contain links related to the sections themselves. For example, the Discussion Forum link is near the Chat Room link. These five sections can be accessed any time by clicking on the white links at the very top near the JEDI logo (for example, Community ).

When you go into an individual section, you will see, to the left of the page, a list of links. You should be able to notice the links in this section (Introduction, Mission Statement, History, FAQ, Disclaimer, etc.). Each link accesses more specialized information associating with the section you are already visiting (for example, Introduction ).

The bigger font link, above the links to the left of this page and other JEDI pages, accesses the main page of the section. It goes to the same URL address as the 'Website' link at the top menu. Why have it twice, you ask? Well, this is for navigation convience. When you are clicking the side links and you want to go back to the main page of the section, you don't have to move your mouse pointer at the very top of the page all the time. You'll learn how this is used when on the website often (for example,
Website).

Then, last but not least, there are sometimes specific links on the page itself, in the white body area which holds this text you are reading now. These links are red in order to catch your eye. When you hover on it, it should underline itself. The underline function exists to make sure you know what link you're about to access (for example, staff@thejedi.org).

 The Five Sections

Now that you understand how to generally navigate through the website, let us briefly explain each of these sections so you have a better idea of what to expect:

  • First, there is the Website section. The Website section simply holds links considering the actual website and its general organizational structure. For example, it has vital information for new visitors, such as this link, as well as history about the website, and vital disclaimers.

  • The Community section has tools used by our Visitors and JEDI Members in order for us to connect with each other. Links in this section include the Discussion Forum, Chat Rooms, Calendar, Newsletter subscription, and Membership Profiles.

  • The Education section is a center where we teach the Jedi ways in a school setting. Remember, this is free. We do not charge fees. Also, we aren't attempting to convert anyone to a particular religion or philosophy. This is for personal enjoyment. There are different methods of study here. You can learn about them by visiting the section.

  • The Database section is where all technical and research information about the Jedi is located, such as encyclopedias, news articles, and recommendations. This is very useful for us when doing research.

  • Finally, there is the Library section. This section does all it can to provide you with an oasis of texts explaining our philosophy and ways of life. It also attempts to categorize these texts in a way you can easily locate them.

If you move around this website on a daily basis, you will soon get used to each of these sections and what their purposes are. Realize this will take time. Be careful to not get overly intimidated with the material you see here. It may seem like a big site for now, like when you move to a bigger house, yet after a while, it will seem more smaller and familiar to you every time you visit us. Some of us who have been here over a year now know this place quite well.

 Let the Exploration Begin

We recommend you look over the website for a while before you go to the Discussion Forum or the Chat Rooms. What is the reason for this? It is probably a good idea for you to know what we are all about before you put yourself in a setting you may not be comfortable in. We also urge you to read up on all the information at this section first (the Website section) before exploring the other sections. That way, you are generally prepared for what you may face down the road.

Just look around and see what you can find. Work out some of the tools we have. See if any of the information we present to you is useful. Remember, you can always contact the staff using the E-mail address staff@thejedi.org if you have any questions or comments. In fact, you may want to visit the Mission Statement link next and go on from there.

So, go for it! Take care and enjoy the JEDI Website!
