The Phantom Menace
The movie is out, and despite its flaws, I think it is fantastic. We have entered a new
era with the mythos of the Jedi, and it is a terribly exciting time to be a student of the
philosophies that George is promoting. It is important however to differentiate between
the movie and real life in the Jedi training that we offer here at the Academy.
Many come here asking about Force powers or building a light saber. Being a Jedi here and
now does not mean being able to do those things, being a Jedi here and now means acting
like one. The Jedi are peacekeepers, guardians, role models, pursuing knowledge and
martial skills while remaining humble. This is the first step in becoming a Jedi. Without
having achieved these things, the other, more fantastic portions of the Jedi mythos can
never be approached.
Life is a journey, not a destination, such also is the way of becoming a Jedi. Don't
concern yourself with when you will be a Jedi, instead concern yourself with what can I do
today that is worthy of a Jedi. Don't let the grandeur of ILM's special effects cloud your
goals of bettering the world by rearranging your priorities.
One must walk before they fly. And with that I'm off to see the movie again.
