    What is this place about?
The Jedi Academy is a training center for various training structures. This is a section part of the JEDI Website, concerned with training Jedi in the real world.

    What is a Jedi Realist?
Jedi Realists are people who have recognised the philosophical value of the Star Wars mythology, mainly the fictional Jedi, and have integrated the outlook and values they present.

Do you only train Jedi Realists?
No we don't. We train all people willing to understand the ways we advocate here.

    Is this Role-Playing?
No. Although some of us have originated with RPG, we have taken the concept further than the imaginary.

So you can make me a Jedi?
No. We cannot make anyone into a Jedi. We can provide you with the tools, advice and guidance for you to turn yourself into someone with the fibre presented by the fictional Jedi. We will not tell you how to make robes, lightsabres, or get objects to levitate. We also do not teach "Force tricks."

I need help with my education. Is there a Counselor I can contact?
Yes. If you need any help, whether it is chossing a course, choosing a training method, or creating an educational plan, you can contact a Counselor at any time by mailing to

I am lost, where do I go from here?
Read this FAQ, then the Read This First. The Academy Overview and Level System pages are also useful. If there are any other questions that these do not answer, you can email any of your questions at any time to academy@thejedi.org

I am training someone. Can I have me and my Apprentice train here?

Yes, you can. We train with all kinds of methods. We also practice what we call the Traditional method in which we advise Mentor/Apprentice relationships. For more information, contact traditional@thejedi.org.

How do I get a Master?
The Academy teaches in a classroom format, with several Students being taught by an Instructor where different Instructors teach various subjects. Yet we also practice what is called the Traditional method in which we advise Mentor/Apprentice relationships. For more information, contact traditional@thejedi.org.

Can I train on my own?
We also offer what we call the Solo Training Method, in which an Advisor will help you personally like homeschooling. There you can learn at your pace. For more information, contact solo@thejedi.org.

Although many Students will find a Mentor at some point, it very rarely happens quickly. We Jedi hold the maxim that “When the Student is ready, the Master will appear”. The Academy does not structure these relationships ourselves; we simply help advise and guide them.

    What should I do first?
The first thing to do is have a really good look around the entire site. I recommend that you read the Overview and Level System pages in the Education Section (where you are now) and the Visitor Intro and Starter Guide pages in the Website Info section at the very least.

    How do I register here?
You first need to go to the Registration Form area, and fill out the Registration Form. Make sure you send it to the appropriate person(s) dealing with the forms.

How do I sign up for a course?
All Academy classes take place the the Academy Forum. We prefer that anyone wishing to take part in courses register with EZBoard and create a Global account. This is not compulsory, but allows you access to additional features and creates an ongoing identity for you to use throughout the Jedi Community (many of whom also use EZBoard). Please also take the time to complete the Public Profile within your EZBoard account (you may keep certain details private if you wish), as it gives Instructors some basic background info on you.

Please make sure that you have at least your email address visible, as this is the easiest way for Instructors to get in touch with you. At this point, you are able to post and join discussions both here and at the main JEDI Forum as a Bystander. Also, please note that joining EZBoard is separate from joining the Academy, and also separate from joining JEDI. If you complete the registration on the main JEDI website, this does not enroll you at the Academy.

To sign up for a course, you most go to the Course Catolog area. All courses that are currently registering for new Students will be clearly marked here. There you can post within the topic offereing the course you wish to take. Please be careful to read any details that the Instructor posts within the thread before you reply.

How long does it take to graduate?
It will generally take about four years. Two years to complete all the courses, and another two years to study for a major and pass certain trials.

Keep in mind this is not a place to coast. We do not just hand out awards here. This is a place for serious learning. Please keep this in mind when you train at the Academy here.

How long do the courses last?
The different courses run for different lengths. Each has its own lesson plan and timetable.

How often are the courses repeated?
There is generally a rest period of a week or so after the end of a course before registration is reopened. This gives the Instructor a break and the opportunity to evaluate the progress of the Students and make any changes necessary for the course.

Do you meet in real-time for class?
No. All the courses are run as lectures and discussion on the forums.

    Do you have chat lectures?
At present, all the lectures are presented on the forums. Whilst many members use the chat rooms to get to know each other, the difficulties of having Students and Instructors in so many time zones means that these are secondary to the posted classes.

Where do I post my Journal?
All Journals should be posted in the Locker Room area. Journals are intended for Students to post their homework for the courses, as well as any thoughts they have relating to their personal progress.

    What is a Bluebook?
A Bluebook is a specialised form of Journal that are used within certain courses.

    When do the courses start?
Currently, all courses being offered in the 2005 Winter Session will start January 31st, 2005. You need to Register first before signing up for a course.

Why don't all courses run at the same time?
Because this would be far too much work for the Instructors. Each course take a great deal of time to prepare and execute. The additional workload from running multiple courses could mean a loss of quality in the courses. We prefer not to do this.

If I already have a Jedi level or experience at another website, do I still have to take certain courses?
JEDI recognises the effort and achievement of those who have been studying either at other sites, or on their own. If you feel that you have the knowledge and skills to be recognised for a certain course or level, you may apply for an Equivilancy Exam.

Right now, this is not available until later this year.

    Who is in charge?

Basically, two people are generally in charge of the Jedi Academy right now. The Principal is currently Angelus. The Vice-Principals are Inari and Kiae Quon dei. You can contact them anytime by checking the profiles by their posts and sending them an Inbox message.

Why haven't I been accepted even though I registered for a course?
We need you to (1) be registered with EZBoard and logged in and (2) fill out and send to us the Registration Form located at the Registration Form area. Also, make sure you check the sign up thread for a specific course to make sure you have carried out any instructions listed there.

    Are there audio lessons?
Not at present, although we are looking to bring multimedia of various forms to the JEDI site as a whole. This may well include audio Lectures and courses for Students.

Do I need to take meditation?
Yes. Meditation is a fundamental part of the syllabus. You also need to take Health and other related courses in order to graduate at the Academy.

    Can I instruct a course?
The Faculty is always looking for new Instructors. If you wish to instruct, or have an idea for a new course, you should then mail to academy@thejedi.org about it.

Does the Jedi Academy have a Mission Statement?
Yes we do. We follow the JEDI Mission Statement; to provide the best possible resources for the Jedi Community.

    Are there any rules?
Yes, there are. We follow the Website Policy which can be found at the Website Section of the website. The Academy is a place of learning through discussion. We recognise that this can sometimes lead to arguments over opinion. Disagreements are not censured, as long as they remain polite. We ask that you treat others as you would wish to be treated, and at the very least agree to disagree politely.

    How are courses structured?
Instructors will post lectures in the specific forum for their course. These lecture will contain information, points that they would like discussed and also instructions for homework or project work. Lectures remain open for a set period, usually one week, in which time the topics of the lecture can be discussed. Homework will usually also have a deadline of one week, and should be posted separately. These are general guidelines as the specifics will vary from course to course.

Will the level I achieve be accepted at other sites?
JEDI is fortunate to have a good reputation within the Jedi Community, and as such any level you hold will garner you a certain amount of respect. JEDI levels are not accepted as equivalents automatically at other sites, just as JEDI does not automatically transfer the ranks of those who come to visit us.

What kind of stuff will I learn?
The core of the Jedi Way is self-knowledge. The majority of the courses are aimed at expanding your understanding of yourself; teaching you how to understand your own behaviour is the most effective way to understand others.

Will I learn to make a lightsabre?
No. JEDI is based on realistic attributes; we do not teach inapplicable skills. That said, if you have found a way to make a working lightsabre, let us know about it smile

    Will I learn telekinesis?
Not at the Jedi Academy. See the question about Lightsabres.

Will I learn about the Force?
Oh yes. Best of all, you will learn about the Force and what it is to you. That we can assure you
